Nutrisystem or a Lack There Of
This past weekend was definitely a challenge. What was so challenging about it? Well, I went on a mini cruise vacation… We all know that cruise ships have all-you-can-eat buffets. These are essentially diet busters if you don’t control yourself. In the past I would convince myself that it’s okay to indulge for the weekend since it’s not everyday you go on a cruise. But this time… oh, this time I was not going to let that happen.
Yes, I had a brownie dessert. Yes, I had an ice cream. But what I did differently was that watched what I ate. I ate fruits. I ate vegetables. I mad conscience, healthy decisions that helped me maintain my sanity. I took along my Nutrisystem breakfast bars and snacks. I didn’t eat them all, but having them with me definitely helped. Just looking at the Nutrisystem logo reminded me to stay in check. It reminded me of the mission I was on. I also took along some protein drinks, just to make sure I got in my protein.
Something else I did differently was that I actually worked out. I exercised everyday I was on the ship. They had a great state-of-the-art facility all the way on the 9th floor. That was six floors away from my cabin. I used the stairs about 95% of the time. Whether it was to get to the gym, get off the ship, go to the dining area or just walk around, the stairs were my friend. One of my the few times I was on the elevator, I was immediately reminded why I had chosen to stay away from them. A couple chose to ride the elevator from the third to the fourth floor… need I say more?
So yes, it is possible to stay on track while you are on a cruise or vacation. It’s all about will-power people! If you don’t know, you better ask somebody!!!!

That’s whats up man!! I knew it would be a challenge for you, but you handled yourself well.
I remember going on a cruise a couple years ago with the best intentions. I went to their gym but found that after running on the treadmill for 5 minutes I was overwhelmingly dizzy and nauseated.
For the remainder of the cruise I just let loose.
That’s a good thing that even there are many temptations which can make you forget of your diet, you still able to control yourself not to. Your idea of bringing your Nutrisystem breakfast bars and snacks seems effective to remind you of your diet. Maybe I should try those things for me to stay healthy because lately I’ve been busy with my job and I don’t have much time for myself. I am not choosing the foods I’m eating and how nice that I saw your blog and I have realized that I should take care of my health too.
I hate it when people take the elevator for 1 floor. Drives me nuts. I wouldn’t have thought to take food with me on the cruise but that is a good idea. I will do that next for sure.
I have been worrying about a Cruise that I am taking in December. I guess proper preparation is the key and yes probably using the workout facilities is no longer a luxury it is a must.
Great way to exercise control! That’s awesome! You know you have really changed your life and habits when you can make things happen while you are on vacation. Many kudos.
Thanks, it’s something I need to do forever.
Israel,
Way to go… that would be tough!
